Abstract: In the present paper are listed 28 genera with 92 species of the weevil
subfamily Cleoninae from Iran. Especially well represented are genera Larinus
(31 species) and Lixus (20 species). Five species are described as new to
science: Larinus jelineki, Larinus terminassianae, Larinus affinis, Eurysternus
vossi and Chromosomus persicus. Taxonomic position of the genus Entymetopus
Faust in relation to the genus Eurysternus Faust is clarified. Geographic
distribution of all species is given. On the other hand, there exists still many
gaps in our knowledge of their bionomy. Most species belong either to
mediterranean, or to central asiatic faunas. Hypolixus spec. aff. nubilosus Boh.
and Neocleonus sannio (Herbst ) belong apparently to the sahelian fauna and
occur – apart from south Iran – also in Africa and in Arabia. To the
endemic Iranian south belong: Larinus chaldeus Petri, Larinus iranensis Voss,
Isomerus pfaundleri Zumpt, Bodemeyeria plicata Reitter and Chromosomus persicus
sp. n.
