Abstract: Cryptocephalus (Cryptocephalus) socotrensis sp. nov., the first known species of
Cryptocephalus Geoffroy, 1762 from Socotra Island (Yemen), is described and
illustrated. The new species is similar in colouration to the C.
undulatus-species group, but differs from all species in this group in a deep
incision in the basal margin of pronotum at posterior angles, and a non-spiral
spermathecal ductus. Character states of the new species are compared with both
Palaearctic and Afrotropical species of Cryptocephalus.
