A review of the genus Cryptopleurum from China (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)

Abstract: Species of the genus Cryptopleurum Mulsant, 1844 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae:
Sphaeridiinae: Megasternini) occurring in China are revised. Five species are
reported, three of which are reported from China for the first time: C. coomani
d’Orchymont, 1926 from Guangdong, C. sulcatum Motschulsky, 1863 from Hainan
and Yunnan, and C. ferrugineum Motschulsky, 1863 from Guangdong. Cryptopleurum
minutum (Fabricius, 1775) is reported for the first time from Qinghai and Gansu,
C. subtile Sharp, 1884 from Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hebei, Hubei,
Hunan, Nei Mongol, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shanghai, Shanxi and Yunnan. Diagnosis of
each species and a key to all Chinese species of Cryptopleurum are provided.
