Abstract: Professor Pavel Štys (1933–2018) was an eminent specialist in morphology, taxonomy, systematics, biology and behaviour of Heteroptera, and the Commissioner of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature. All his career was connected with the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, where he educated several generations of Czech biologists and teachers. Here we provide his short biography, personal memories of his colleagues, bibliography currently comprising 386 papers, and annotated list of the taxa he described, which includes two families (Stemmocryptidae and Medocostidae), 11 subfamilies, 4 tribes, 54 genus-group and 129 species-group names, all of them in Heteroptera, except one species and one subspecies of Syrphidae (Diptera). Within the list the grammatical gender of the genera ChauliopsScott, 1874 and Neochauliops Štys, 1963 is corrected to masculine in accordance with ICZN (1999: Article 30.1.4.3) affecting the gender agreement in the following species: Chauliops conicus Gao & Bu, 2009, Ch. lobatulus Breddin, 1907, Ch. petiolatus (Germar, 1837), Ch. quaternarius Gao & Bu, 2009, and Neochauliops laciniatus (Bergroth, 1916).Published online: 15th August 2019

Abstract: Cryptostemma miyamotoisp. nov. and C. pavelstysisp. nov. from Japan are described. Habitus images and illustrations of diagnostic features, including genitalic structures, are provided. A key to the Eastern Palaearctic species is offered to facilitate identification. Habitats and behavior of the two new species are discussed based on the field and laboratory observations. Abstract: Three new species of the flower bug genus Orius Wolff, 1811 (Anthocorinae: Oriini) are described as new, namely Orius (Orius) ekaii sp. nov., O. (Orius) nigromaritus sp. nov., and O. (Xylorius) paveli sp. nov., all from Nepal. The plant association and habitat are documented for each new species. Habitus images of live individuals and scanning electron micrographs are also provided to aid in proper recognition of their identities. A checklist of Orius species known from South Asia (SAARC nations) is incorporated; Orius indicus (Reuter, 1884) is herein placed in the subgenus DimorphellaReuter, 1884.Published online: 15th August 2019

Abstract: The Colobathristidae are a poorly studied family of Lygaeoidea distributed in the tropics and subtropics of Australasian, Neotropical, and Oriental biogeographic regions. PhaenacanthaHorváth, 1904 is the largest genus of the family, with 33 described species. Here, two new species of Phaenacantha are described from Borneo (P. grimmae sp. nov. and P. nigrispina sp. nov.) and one from New Caledonia (P. paveli sp. nov.), all of which represent the first record of the genus from these islands. Also, a specimen of genus Symphylax Horváth, 1904 from Borneo is described that has strong similarities to S. handschini Kormilev, 1953 from the same island, but differs from it in some minor features and is considered a new subspecies, S. handschini kinabaluensis subsp. nov.Published online: 15th August 2019

Abstract: Hyocephalidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomomorpha) is a small family of true bugs containing two genera and three species endemic to Australia. For the first time, we examine here selected structures of their external morphology using scanning electron microscopy – the external structures associated with the metathoracic and dorsoabdominal scent glands, the strainer organ on the sternite III, as well as the trichobothrial pattern and ultrastructure. The following character states are confirmed (i, ii, iii) or newly recognised (iv, v) as autapomorphies of Hyocephalidae: i) apically projected scimitar-shaped peritreme of the metathoracic scent glands; i) presence of a strainer organ on sternite III in both sexes; iii) trichobothria on sternite V placed immediately ventrad of spiracle, iv) trichobothria on each of abdominal segments III–VII all grouped together within a common trichome, and v) presence of crocus-like structures within the trichome. Of particular interest is the presence of a shallow open bothrium (type B) surrounded by a trichome in Hyocephalidae, a probably derived character state shared with Pyrrhocoroidea and most Lygaeoidea, while Stenocephalidae (previously considered to be closely related to Hyocephalidae and used here for comparison) and the remaining Coreoidea possess a recessed bothrium of type A2, lacking the trichome. The morphology of trichobothria in Hyocephalidae may thus suggest either their closer relationship to Lygaeoidea + Pyrrhocoroidea than to Coreoidea, or a parallel evolution of the open bothrium with trichome in Eutrichophora. We highlight the importance of Hyocephalidae for a better understanding of the phylogeny of Eutrichophora and the urgent need to obtain phylogenomic data for future research. A taxonomic catalogue of Hyocephalidae is supplemented. The neotype designation for Hyocephalus aprugnus Bergroth, 1906 made by Štys (1964) and supported by Grant & Štys (1970) is found invalid.Published online: 15th August 2019

Abstract: The genus Barretonus Roudier, 1958 is a genus endemic to Macaronesia, described from the archipelago of Madeira where four species are known to date. In this study, two new species of Barretonus, B. auarita García & Oromí sp. nov. (from La Palma, Canary Islands) and B. daute García & Andújar sp. nov. (from Tenerife, Canary Islands), are described based on morphological and molecular evidence (mtCOI), and additional notes on their biology and ecology are provided. Morphology of the new species is compared with the other representatives of the genus, and their phylogenetic relationships with a Barretonus representative from Madeira and species from additional genera within the Cossoninae are shown. This work increases the number of species of the genus Barretonus from four to six anophthalmous or microphthalmous species with an endogean lifestyle, and incorporates the Canary Islands into its Macaronesian range of distribution.Published online: 16th August 2019

Abstract: The genus Xistrella Bolívar, 1909 (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae) is taxonomically reviewed. It can be easily recognised from other genera in SE Asia, and especially in the People’s Republic of China. It is distinctive by antennae inserted below the inferior margin of eye and considerably long; pronotum between the shoulders strongly elevated to obtuse gibbosity or slightly elevated in the posterior part of shoulders. This genus is distributed mainly in China, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, Malaysia, and the Philippines. One new species, X. hainanensis Deng sp. nov. (China: Hainan), is described, and a new record of X. dubia (Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893) from China is given. An annotated identification key to all species of the genus Xistrella is provided.Published online: 6th September 2019

Abstract: The genus Chrysapace Crawley, 1924 is one of the rarest and poorly known lineages in the ant subfamily Dorylinae, currently composed of only three extant valid species from the Oriental Realm. There is some taxonomic obscurity concerning the distinction between two of the three valid species, C. sauteri (Forel, 1913) and C. costatus (Bharti & Wachkoo, 2013), resulting from previous unavailability of C. sauteri type material and inconsistency in descriptions provided in previous literature. In the present study, we examined the C. sauteri syntype and the C. costatus holotype as well as newly collected material and vouchers used in previous literature. Although both of the species agreed well with each other in most morphological characters of the worker, we tentatively retain the separation of these species based on differences in the head sculpture, eye and ocelli sizes. The worker, queen, and male of C. sauteri, and the worker of C. costatus are here redescribed with the first provision of COI DNA barcode data. In addition, C. merimbunensis Yamada & Eguchi sp. nov. is described from Brunei based on workers and males from a single colony. Abstract: A new species of the genus AnomalaSamouelle, 1819, Anomala consanguinea sp. nov. is described from Hainan and Guangdong Provinces, southern China. It is closely related to Oriental Anomala esmeraldaProkofiev, 2015, A. russiventris Fairmaire, 1893, and A. ineptaOhaus, 1916. Diagnostic characters of these species are provided and compared. In addition, their relationships are briefly discussed. Anomala ineptais recorded from Sabah, Malaysia for the first time.used in previous literature. Abstract: Four new species of the eutheiine genus Paraneseuthia Franz, 1986 are described: P. luzonica sp. nov. (the Philippines), P. kaibesariana sp. nov. (Indonesia: Kai Besar Is.), P. tanimbariana sp. nov. (Indonesia: Yamdena Is.), and P. morobensis sp. nov. (Papua New Gui­nea). Externally, these species share many characters with members of the SE Asian, Sundaland group within the genus. However, male genitalic structures of some of them resemble aedeagi of Australian Paraneseuthia, supporting previous phylogeographic hypotheses that assumed the origins of both north-eastern (Far Russian and Japanese) and south-eastern (Australian and Melanesian) Paraneseuthia from a Sundaland ancestor. The aedeagus of P. morobensis sp. nov. shows intermediary shape and structures between those of P. quadrifoveata Jałoszyń­ski, 2010 of Borneo, Sabah, and that of P. levigata Jałoszyński, 2010 of eastern Papua New Guinea. The aedeagus of P. tanimbariana sp. nov., in turn, shows a striking similarity to that of the northern Australian P. angustifurculata Jałoszyński, 2013 and other species known to occur in Australia. The male genitalia of P. luzonica sp. nov. (the first species discovered in the Philippines), and especially of P. kaibesariana sp. nov., add unique features to the already known, great morphological diversity of the SE Asian members of Paraneseuthia that occupy the presumable evolutionary cradle of this genus.Published online: 30th October 2019

Abstract: The description of Blepharidina socotrana sp. nov. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini), with clear Afrotropical affinities, from Socotra Island is provided. Photos of the main diagnostic morphological characters, including aedeagus, are supplied. A phylogenetic analysis of all species of Blepharidina Bechyné, 1968, performed to clarify the taxonomic position of the new species, confirms the presence of two clades referable to as Blepharidina s. str. and B. (Afroblepharida Biondi & D’Alessandro, 2017), and places the new species within Afroblepharida, even though with a moderate support.Published online: 31st October 2019

Abstract: A subterranean myrmicine ant Crematogaster monocula sp. nov. is described based on two worker specimens from Cambodia. This species belongs to the C. biroi group of the subgenus Orthocrema Santschi, 1918, which is characterized by developed subpetiolar process, developed subpostpetiolar process and sculptured mesosoma. The new species is easily distinguished from other species of Crematogaster Lund, 1831 by having only one ommatidium. DNA sequences comprising a 761 bp fragment of the 3’ region of the mitochondrial COI gene were amplified and analyzed for C. monocula sp. nov. and other closely related species from the same group. The interspecific COI divergence is 17.8% for C. monocula sp. nov. and C. reticulata Hosoishi, 2009. This species is unique in having the smallest eye in the genus Crematogaster.Published online: 7th November 2019

Abstract: A new genus and species, Minpolyphaga inexpectata gen. & sp. nov. is described based on material collected from Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, southeast China. Minpolyphaga inexpectata gen. & sp. nov. exhibits uniform colouration in the male, and a small-sized body in both sexes (13.7‒15.8 mm in males, 12.8‒13.5 mm in females), making it the smallest species of Polyphagini found in China.Published online: 7th November 2019

Abstract: A two-part annotated check-list of Pteromalidae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea) of Morocco aims to present updated information on this rather neglected group of parasitoid wasps. The first part includes 113 species belonging to 65 genera from 11 subfamilies – Asaphinae, Cerocephalinae, Cleonyminae, Eunotinae, Macromesinae, Miscogastrinae, Ormocerinae, Pireninae, Pteromalinae, Spalangiinae, and Sycoryctinae. One species, Cleonymus longigaster Mitroiu sp. nov., is described as new, and three species (Notanisus versicolorWalker, 1837 and Miscogaster maculataWalker, 1833 and Gastrancistus aff. vagans Westwood, 1833) are newly recorded for the fauna of Morocco. Abstract: Claassenia xucheni sp. nov., a new species of the perlid genus ClaasseniaWu, 1934 is described and illustrated based on eight males and two females collected in the Jiuchongshan National Forest Park, Chongqing city, China. The new species is characterized by round patch of sensilla basiconica on tergum 9, triangular median sclerite between hemitergal lobes, scattered sensilla basiconica on hemitergal lobes, complicated sclerotization pattern on male sternum 9, membranous and curved aedeagus, and by slightly posteromedially protruded female subgenital plate. Abstract: The genus Venanides Mason, 1981 (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Microgastrinae) is recorded from Iran for the first time, and a new species, Venanides caspicus Abdoli, Fernandez-Triana & Talebi sp. nov., is described and illustrated. This new species is characterized by its long metasomal tergite 1, that is narrowing towards the posterior end; scutoscutellar sulcus very narrow, obliterated or weakly crenulate; wing veins pale or almost transparent. Abstract: Stenogiffardia bifurca sp. nov. is described from a series of specimens collected in the former Antananarivo, Fianarantsoa, and Toliara Provinces of Madagascar. This is the first record of the genus Stenogiffardia Evans, 1977 (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Deltocephalinae) from Madagascar, which is now the third genus of the tribe Chiasmini known from the island. The distribution of Stenogiffardiais analyzed and an identification key to species is given. Abstract: The puparium of Cyphomyia albitarsis(Fabricius, 1805) is described and illustrated for the first time, based on six puparia, of which five emerged into adults. In Cyphomyia Wiedemann, 1819, the immature stages (6th instar larva or puparia) of only eight species are known (Cyphomyia aurifrons Wiedemann, 1830, C. bicarinata Williston, 1900, C. erecta McFadden, 1969, C. leucocephala Wiedemann, 1819, C. marginataLoew, 1866, C. picta Schiner, 1868, C. pilossisima Gerstaecker, 1857, and C. souzalopesi Iide, 1967), which represents only 9% of the Cyphomyia species described. Abstract: Catoclastus Solier, 1851 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Rutelinae: Rutelini), a genus endemic to Peru, is revised. Based on morphology and examination of type specimens, Catoclastus jaumesi Soula, 2010 is a new synonym of C. chevrolatii Solier, 1851, while Catoclastus rabinovichi Martínez, 1971 is transferred to the genus Mecopelidnota Bates, 1904, leading to Mecopelidnota rabinovichi (Martínez) as a new combination. Characters that characterize the genus, natural history, and distribution data are given. Implications and problems associated with intraspecific variability of C. chevrolatii are discussed. As a result of our research, the genus is considered monotypic and endemic to western Peru.Published online: 27th December 2019
