Alicata Antonio, Schifani EnricoThree endemic Aphaenogaster from the Siculo-Maltese archipelago and the Italian Peninsula: part of a hitherto unrecognized species group from the Maghreb? (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 1-16
Abstract: More than 100 years ago, the Italian myrmecologist Carlo Emery described two endemic Sicilian ants: Aphaenogaster sicula Emery, 1908, which he originally considered a subspecies of A. crocea André, 1881, and A. fiorii Emery, 1915 stat. nov., which he believed was a subspecies of A. gibbosa (Latreille, 1798). Males of the two species and the queen of A. fiorii were never described. The scarcity of information contained in the original description led to several misunderstandings by subsequent authors: for example, A. sicula was later elevated to species-rank on the basis of misidentified material of A. fiorii stat. nov. We redescribe the two species, adding the descriptions of their missing castes and designating their lectotypes. We also describe a third related species of the genus: A. trinacriae sp. nov. from Sicily. The ecology and distribution of the three are illustrated. Their relationship with the other congeneric species of the Mediterranean basin is discussed considering the morphology of all three castes, with attention to the often-overlooked males. Despite the fact that A. fiorii and A. sicula were lately believed to be close relatives of A. subterranea (Latreille, 1798), the morphological elements available suggest that they probably belong to a separate, hitherto unrecognized clade from the Maghreb (North-Western Africa), together with A. trinacriae sp. nov. Gnezdilov Vladimir M.A new species of the myrmecomorphic planthopper genus Formiscurra (Fulgoroidea: Caliscelidae) from EthiopiaActa Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 17-22
Abstract: Formiscurra atlas sp. nov. is described from southwestern Ethiopia. It represents the first record of the genus Formiscurra Gnezdilov & Viraktamath, 2011 (Hemiptera: Fulgoroidea: Caliscelidae) from Africa. The relationships of Formiscurra to other African taxa of Caliscelidae as well as myrmecomorphy in Auchenorrhyncha are discussed. A photograph of a live specimen of Formiscurra indicus Gnezdilov & Viraktamath, 2011 and an identification key to both species are given. Published online: 25th January 2019
Bezděk JanTaumacera revisited, with new synonyms, new combinations and a revised catalogue of the species (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 23-52
Abstract: The generic synonyms of Taumacera Thunberg, 1814 are revised. Acroxena Baly, 1879; Kinabalua Mohamedsaid, 1997; Neochrolea Jacoby, 1887; Paraenidea Laboissière, 1933 and Xenarthra Baly, 1861 are proposed as new synonyms of Taumacera. Luperomorphella Chûjô, 1964 is removed from the synonymy with Taumacera and proposed as a new synonym of Cerophysa Chevrolat, 1836. As a result of the examination of extensive type material, the following new combinations are proposed: Cerophysa albomaculata (Chûjô, 1964) comb. nov. (from Acroxena), Taumacera submetallica (Jacoby, 1896) comb. nov. (from Platyxantha), Taumacera sumatrensis (Jacoby, 1884) comb. nov. (from Aenidea), Taumacera suturalis (Duvivier, 1885) comb. nov. (from Platyxantha), Taumacera unicolor (Jacoby, 1887) comb. nov. (from Xenarthra), Taumacera viridis (Hope, 1831) comb. nov. (from Auchenia). New substitute names are proposed for preoccupied taxa which are newly transferred to Taumacera from other genera: Taumacera kimotoi nom. nov. (for Acroxena femoralis Kimoto, 1989, nec Platyxantha femoralis Allard, 1889, synonym of T. fulvicollis (Jacoby, 1881)); Taumacera indicola nom. nov. (for Acroxena indica Jacoby, 1896, nec Taumacera indica (Jacoby, 1889)); Taumacera medvedevi nom. nov. (for Acroxena nigricornis Medvedev, 1992, nec Taumacera nigricornis (Baly, 1864)). Platyxantha quadraticollis Jacoby, 1896 is confirmed as a synonym of Theopella bodjoensis (Duvivier, 1885). The name Hyphaenia tibialis Medvedev & Romantsov, 2013 is fixed by the act of the first reviewer principle. Based on the structure of antennae, seven species-groups are recognized (the antennata-group, the cervicornis-group, the deusta-group, the insignis-group, the nasuta-group, the nigricornis-group, and the viridis-group). Lectotypes are designated for Platyxantha balyi Jacoby, 1895 and Dorydea indica Jacoby, 1889, which is important since each of their syntype series consists of two different species. Kvifte Gunnar M., Andersen TrondDescription of Gondwanoscurus curleri sp. nov. from the West Usambara Mts, Tanzania (Diptera: Psychodidae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 59-62
Abstract: Gondwanoscurus curleri sp. nov. is described based on four males collected in November 1990 and April 1991 in the West Usambara Mountains, Tanzania. It is the first species of Gondwanoscurus Ježek, 2001 to be described from the African mainland, and the second from the Afrotropical Region. The new species is characterized by a strongly asymmetric first flagellomere with a large mesal projection; and by several genitalic characters including simple gonostyli with acuminate apices and the surstylus without discernable basal projection. A key to world species of Gondwanoscurus is presented based on data from the literature. Published online: 14th February 2019

Yasunaga Tomohide, Tamada Yui, Hinami Haruka, Miyazaki Ayana, Duwal Ram Keshari, Nagashima TetsuyaTaxonomic review for the Asian taxa of plant bug tribe Hallodapini, with emphasis on stridulatory mechanism (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 71-99
Abstract: Asian genera and species of the plant bug tribe Hallodapini are reviewed. The present classification system is based particularly on detailed morphology and function of the stridulatory device and concealed habitat preference. Our recent efforts successfully demonstrated that the stridulatory devices of the forewing edge and dorsal metafemur are doubtlessly used for intraspecific communication (at least for courtship behavior). Based on the stridulatory structures and additional characters, Cleotomiris Schuh, 1995, Cleotomiroides Schuh, 1984, Hallodapus Fieber, 1858 and Wygomiris Schuh, 1984, are re-diagnosed and discussed; Alloeomimella Yasunaga & Duwal gen. nov. is proposed to accommodate Alloeomimus muiri Schuh, 1984 and a new combination, Alloeomimella muiri (Schuh) comb. nov., is accordingly established. Six new species are further described: Cleotomiroides ishikawachui Yasunaga & Duwal sp. nov. (Indonesia: Java); Hallodapus jingfui Yasunaga & Duwal sp. nov. (Taiwan); H. spinosus Yasunaga & Duwal sp. nov. (Thailand); H. susurratus Yasunaga & Duwal sp. nov. (Thailand); Wygomiris paveli sp. nov. (Taiwan); and W. phormictes sp. nov. (Taiwan). The male of Wygomiris nanae Yasunaga, 2012 is reported for the first time. A teratological form found on the antennae in two Wygomiris species is also documented. Published online: 26th February 2019
Yin Zi-Wei, Kurbatov Sergey A., Cuccodoro Giulio, Cai Chen-YangCretobrachygluta gen. nov., the first and oldest Brachyglutini in mid-Cretaceous amber from Myanmar (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 101-106
Abstract: A new fossil genus and species of the subfamily Pselaphinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae), †Cretobrachygluta laurasiensis gen. et sp. nov., is described based on an exquisitely preserved specimen in mid-Cretaceous amber from northern Myanmar. The new genus possesses a series of characters diagnostic of the extant Brachyglutini: Brachyglutina (supertribe Goniaceritae), but it also exhibits several plesiomorphic traits that suggest a basal position within the tribe. The discovery of the first and oldest brachyglutine beetle in Burmese amber considerably improves our understanding of the early morphological evolution of Pselaphinae during the Mesozoic Era. Roháček JindřichFirst Sphaeroceridae (Diptera) endemic to Madeira – three new terricolous species of Spelobia and PullimosinaActa Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 107-124
Abstract: Three new species of Diptera (Sphaeroceridae: Limosininae) from the Madeira Island (Portugal), viz. Spelobia polymorpha sp. nov., Pullimosina (Pullimosina) kesoni sp. nov., and P. (P.) dorae sp. nov. are described (both sexes), illustrated and their relationships, biology and distribution discussed. All these species are terricolous inhabitants of the leaf-litter stratum of the original Madeiran laurel forests (Laurisilva) and because of their poor flying ability they are considered endemic to Madeira. None of these species have relatives among endemic species of Sphaeroceridae known from other Macaronesian archipelagos inasmuch as the endemic species of Canary Islands and Azores belong to different genera of Limosininae. Biffi Gabriel, Rosa Simone P.Morphology of bromeliad-associated immature stages of Daiphron bipartitus and its adults confirms the non-monophyly of the genus (Coleoptera: Cantharidae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 139-150
Abstract: Daiphron bipartitus Pic, 1934 is a poorly known species whose systematic position in the subfamily Chaulioganthinae is still controversial. In this paper we describe immature stages of D. bipartitus which were found inhabiting fallen bromeliads Vriesea bituminosa in southeastern Brazilian Atlantic forest. Adults are redescribed, including the first study of male and female genitalia. Larva, pupa and adult are illustrated in detail and compared with other species of Daiphron Gorham, 1881 and Chauliognathus Hentz, 1830. We discuss the systematic position of Daiphron bipartitus within Chauliognathinae on the basis of morphological comparison of its immature and adult characters. Both were found to be more similar to species of Chauliognathus than to Daiphron mediofasciatum Pic, 1949, which supports the hypothesis of polyphyly of Daiphron. Aspects of the species biology and occasional association with bromeliads are discussed. Published online: 18th March 2019

Abstract: he harlequin ladybird, Harmonia axyridis (Pallas, 1773), is native to Asia but has been introduced to many countries, both intentionally and unintentionally. In the Middle East region, H. axyridis was so far only known from Iran and Turkey. This study reports H. axyridis for the first time from a country with a hot desert climate, Saudi Arabia. The single specimen that was found is most likely the result of unintentional release. Successful spreading of H. axyridis in Saudi Arabia will be limited because of high temperatures during summer and scarcity of prey (aphids). New records from Iran and Turkey suggest fast spreading of H. axyridis in these parts of the Middle East. In addition, we also present new records from Iran and Turkey for H. quadripunctata (Pontoppidan, 1763), the other species in the genus that occurs in the Middle East region. A key and illustrations are provided for both species.Published online: 17th April 2019

Yoshida Takahiro, Halstead David G. H., Hirowatari ToshiyaDiscovery of the genus Airaphilus (Coleoptera: Silvanidae) in Japan, with a description of a potentially endangered new speciesActa Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 211-216
Abstract: The genus Airaphilus Redtenbacher, 1858 (Coleoptera: Silvanidae: Silvaninae) is recorded from Japan for the first time. The record is based on the discovery of a new apterous species, Airaphilus abei sp. nov., described and illustrated herein. The new species is similar to Airaphilus filiformis (Rosenhauer, 1856), however it can be distinguished by long antennae reaching about body midlength; anterior margin of pronotum about as wide as head; elytra without a humeral tooth, rounded to base and more to apices; and long metaventrite. Only five specimens have been found and these were collected in 1992 at Kokeyachi bog in the far north of Honshu. This bog and the adjacent wetlands have begun to dry out and are undergoing a transition to grassland. These factors, together with the apparently very limited distribution and the possibly restricted mobility due to lack of hind wings, suggest that at least in this locality the new species may be endangered.Published online: 3rd June 2019
Hájek Jiří, Alarie Yves, Šťastný Jaroslav, Vondráček DominikThe first hygropetric Platynectes and its larva from eastern China (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 217-228
Abstract: Platynectes (Gueorguievtes) davidorum sp. nov. is described, including all larval instars, from hygropetric habitats in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, eastern China. The new species can be easily distinguished from all other Asia Platynectes Régimbart, 1879 with dorsally strongly convex habitus, distinctly impressed double reticulation of elytra, short appendages and the shape of median lobe of aedeagus. Collected larvae were successfully associated with adults using a molecular approach and the barcode for the new species is provided as well as the phylogenetic position based on the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I gene; they are described and illustrated, with detailed morphometric and chaetotaxic analyses of the cephalic capsule, head appendages, legs, last abdominal segment, and urogomphi. The classification of the new species within the subgenus Gueorguievtes Vazirani, 1976, and its adaptation to hygropetric habitats are briefly discussed. Published online: 20th June 2019
Fikáček Martin, Liu Hsing-CheA review of Thysanarthria with description of seven new species and comments on its relationship to Chaetarthria (Hydrophilidae: Chaetarthriini)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 229-252
Abstract: The Old World genus Thysanarthria Orchymont, 1926 is reviewed taxonomically and compared to the related genus Chaetarthria Stephens, 1835. Chaetarthria is considered to consist of three groups differing in the morphology of male genitalia and surrounding sclerites: (1) large Old World Chaetarthria which seems to stand apart of the remaining groups, and (2) European Chaetarthria plus (3) American Chaetarthria which both share the male sternite 8 with a long median projection with Thysanarthria. The reduced mesal part of male sternite 9 is shared by European Chaetarthria and Thysanarthria, supporting their close relationship proposed by previous molecular analyses. Sixteen species are recognized within Thysanarthria which differ in the details of the morphology of the aedeagus illustrated for all species. Seven species are described as new: T. bifida sp. nov. (Thailand), T. cardamona sp. nov. (India: Kerala), T. chui sp. nov. (Taiwan), T. persica sp. nov. (southern Iran), T. saurahana sp. nov. (Nepal), T. trifida (Laos), and T. wadicola sp. nov. (Oman). New records are provided for T. ceylonensis Hebauer, 2001 (new to India: Madhya Pradesh), T. championi (Knisch, 1924) (new to Afghanistan, India: Arunachal Pradesh, China: Yunnan, and Myanmar), T. madurensis Hebauer, 2001 (new to Nepal and India: Kerala), and T. siamensis Hebauer, 2001 (new to India: Uttarkhand, Nepal and Laos). Chaetarthriomorphus sulcatus Chiesa, 1967 is revealed as a junior synonym of Chaetarthria championi Knisch, 1924, and lectotypes are designated for both these taxa. An undescribed species of the American group of Chaetarthria is recorded from Saudi Arabia either as an accidental introduction or due to mislabeling; the species is illustrated but not described.Published online: 20th June 2019

Abstract: The Barsine perpallida-B. yuennanensis species-group is reviewed. Six new species, B. biformis Volynkin & Černý, sp. nov. (North Thailand and North Vietnam), B. laszloi Volynkin & Černý, sp. nov. (Nepal), B. hausmanni Volynkin & Černý, sp. nov. (North Thailand), B. andromeda Volynkin, Černý & Huang, sp. nov. (China: Shaanxi and Sichuan), B. eurydice Volynkin & Černý, sp. nov. (North Vietnam), and B. dao Volynkin, Černý & Huang, sp. nov. (North Vietnam and China: Yunnan), are described. All species treated are subdivided into five subgroups: B. biformis, B. perpallida, B. flavicollis, B. hausmanni, and B. yuennanensis subgroups. Four new combinations are established: Barsine hololeuca (Hampson, 1895), comb. nov., B. ruficollis (Fang, 1991), comb. nov., Barsine nigrovena (Fang, 2000), comb. nov. (all three from Miltochrista Hübner, [1819]), and B. flavicollis (Moore, 1878), comb. nov. (from Mahavira Moore, 1878). A lectotype for Mahavira flavicollis Moore, 1878 is designated. One new synonymy is established: B. perpallida (Hampson, 1900) = Diacrisia porthesioides Rothschild, 1910, syn. nov. Adults, male and female genitalia of all species are illustrated.Published online: 3rd July 2019
Çerçi Barış, Koçak Özgür, Tezcan SerdarTwo new species and ten new records of Heteroptera from Turkey, including the first record of the potential alien Campylomma miyamotoi in the Western PalaearcticActa Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 295-306
Abstract: In this paper, two new Miridae species are described from Turkey, Adelphophylus oenderi sp. nov. from Silifke (Mersin province) and Phytocoris (Exophytocoris) carapezzai sp. nov. from Merkez (Karaman province). Habitus of males and females and male genitalia of both species and female genitalia of A. oenderi sp. nov. are illustrated. Additionally, 10 Heteroptera species are recorded from Turkey for the first time: Campylomma miyamotoi Yasunaga, 2001, Compsidolon (Compsidolon) elegantulum Reuter, 1899, Hallodapus concolor (Reuter, 1890), Maurodactylus kukuensis V. G. Putshkov, 1978, Pinalitus viscicola (Puton, 1888), Platycranus alkestis Linnavuori, 1999, Zanchius breviceps (Wagner, 1951), Montandoniola moraguesi (Puton, 1896), Temnostethus (Temnostethus) gracilis Horváth, 1907, and Plinthisus (Isioscytus) minutissimus Fieber, 1864. Campylomma miyamotoi Yasunaga, 2001, an Eastern Palaearctic species bound to the ornamental Albizia julibrissin, is a new potentially alien species in the Western Palaearctic. The species status of Compsidolon (Compsidolon) parietariae V. G. Putshkov, 1984 is discussed.Published online: 17th July 2019

Durán-Luz Juana, Ibañez-Bernal Sergio, Collantes FranciscoFirst Mexican record of Neoarisemus maesi with the description of the female (Diptera: Psychodidae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 59(1): 337-340
Abstract: Neoarisemus maesi Collantes & Martínez-Ortega, 1999 was described based on male specimens collected in Nicaragua. Here we record this species in Mexico for the first time. This corresponds to the first record of the genus in this country. Neoarisemus maesi is the only species of the genus registered in the study area and for that reason the sexes can be easily associated. We present morphological description of the previously unknown female.Published online: 18th July 2019
