Campoy Andrés, Pérez-Bañon Celeste, Nielsen Tore R., Rojo SantosMicromorphology of egg and larva of Eristalis fratercula, with an updated key of Eristalis species with known third instar larvae (Diptera: Syrphidae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 57(1): 215-227
Abstract: The flower- or hoverflies (Syrphidae) and particularly the subfamily Eristalinae, are known by their importance as pollinators in both natural and agro-ecosystems. Similar to other saprophagous eristalines, the larvae of Eristalis Latreille, 1804 are characterized by an elongated anal segment and a telescopic breathing tube. These features have given them the common name of rat-tailed maggots and allow them to develop in liquid or semi-liquid media loaded with decaying organic material. This paper presents the first description of the egg and the third-instar larva of the boreal species Eristalis fratercula (Zetterstedt, 1838). Morphological studies are presented based on cryo-scanning electron microscopy (cryo-SEM). After comparison with all other known species of the genus Eristalis with described preimaginal morphology, we conclude that main diagnostic character of E. fratercula is the presence of long branched spicules located in the upper margin on the lateral lips. Finally, we provide an updated key that includes the 15 Eristalis species whose third larval stages have already been described.Published online: 30th June 2017
Roháček Jindřich, Andrade RuiPeriscelis fugax sp. nov., an overlooked European species of Periscelididae (Diptera), with notes on the morphology and terminology of terminaliaActa Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 57(1): 229-251
Abstract: Periscelis (Periscelis) fugax sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on series of specimens from Portugal and the Czech Republic. It is probably widespread in Europe but has not been previously recognized from the closely related and externally very similar P. (P.) winnertzii Egger, 1862. The new species differs from P. winnertzii not only in structures of the male and female terminalia (illustrated) but also in colour pattern of pedicel and mesonotum. Morphology of the male and female terminalia is studied in detail in both these species and terminology of their structures is discussed and redefined. A new modern key to Palaearctic species of Periscelis (s. str.) species is constructed.Published online: 30th June 2017
Oláh JánosIs the genus Potamophylax (Trichoptera: Limnephilidae) highly polymorphic?Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 57(1): 253-257
Abstract: The present deprived state of taxonomy gives no appropriate resources for taxonomists to apply more sophisticated phenomic tools and to carry out more appropriate population sampling. Without fine structure analysis of large population samples there is no hope to discover speciation traits and there is no chance to delineate young incipient sibling species with subtle but stable shape divergences. Phylogenetic species complexes of these incipient species are frequently mistaken with species polymorphism. However, historical polymorphism is a sympatric phenomenon based on discontinuous variation inside a panmictic population and not between geographically isolated populations. I continue to consider Potamophylax mista (Navas, 1918) a valid species following the evidence given by Oláh et al. (2013).Published online: 30th June 2017

Abstract: The paper summarizes the results of our study of selected Microlepidoptera families (Meessiidae, Tineidae, Douglasiidae, Epermeniidae, Glyphipterigidae: Acrolepiinae) collected in the Russian Altai. Tinea altaica sp. nov. is described from the vicinity of Tashanta on the Russian-Mongolian border and from Mongolia. The new species distantly resembles Tinea semifulvella Haworth, 1828 and T. semifulvelloides Petersen, 1973. The up to now unknown females of Klimeschia biarmatella Budashkin, 2003 and Monopis luteocostalis Gaedike, 2006 are described. Scardia boletella (Fabricius, 1794), Crassicornella crassicornella (Zeller, 1847), Trichophaga ziniella Zagulajev, 1960, Tineola bisselliella (Hummel, 1823), Monopis laevigella (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775), M. pallidella Zagulajev, 1955, Epermenia ochreomaculella asiatica Gaedike, 1979, and Acrolepiopsis sapporensis (Matsumura, 1931) are recorded from the Altai Republic for the first time. Tinea hongorella Zagulajev, 1975 and Klimeschia biarmatella Budashkin, 2003, so far known only from the holotypes, are new species for Russia. Tinea hongorella is also a new species for Europe.Published online: 30th June 2017
Weidenhoffer Zdeněk, Šumpich JanNeolycaena (Rhymnaria) arcana sp. nov. from Tibet (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 57(1): 275-278
Abstract: Neolycaena (Rhymnaria) arcana sp. nov. (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae: Theclinae: Eumaeini) was discovered in an old collection of Lepidoptera in the National Museum in Prague and subsequently described from one male. This specimen undoubtedly originates from the period before 1950, and its label contains only ‘Tibet’. The new species is morphologically similar to other taxa of the subgenus Rhymnaria Zhdanko, 1983 from which it clearly differs in the arrangement of dots on the underside of hindwings as well as in characters of male genitalia. Photos of the holotype and its genitalia are given. Published online: 30th June 2017
