Cordeiro Danilo, Bravo Freddy, Chagas CinthiaFour new species of Psychodinae (Diptera: Psychodidae) from the Brazilian semiarid region, with contributions to supraspecific classification of Trichopsychodina and a redefinition of Feuerborniella.Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 55(2): 457-472Abstract: The collection of psychodids of the Brazilian semiarid region, deposited at the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana (MZFS), was revisited, and four new species of Psychodinae are herein described: Feuerborniella jezeki Cordeiro & Bravo sp. nov., Feuerborniella concava Cordeiro & Bravo sp. nov. and Alepia janjezeki Cordeiro & Bravo sp. nov., from the state of Bahia, and Feuerborniella pilosella Cordeiro & Bravo sp. nov., from the state of Paraíba. The morphology of the new species of Trichopsychodina raised questions about the supraspecific classification on this subtribe. These questions are discussed, concerning mainly the Neotropical fauna, and Feuerborniella Vaillant, 1974 is redefined, including species of Bahisepedon Omelková & Ježek, 2012. Based on this synonymy the following new combinations are made: Feuerborniella amblytes (Quate, 1999) comb. nov., F. ancepitis (Quate, 1996) comb. nov., F. bicuspis (Quate, 1996) comb. nov., F. hamata (Quate, 1996) comb. nov., F. oblongola (Bravo, Chagas & Cordeiro, 2006) comb. nov., F. opposita (Banks, 1901) comb. nov., F. pandiculata (Quate, 1996) comb. nov., F. retusa (Quate, 1996) comb. nov., F. uncinata (Bravo, Chagas & Cordeiro, 2006) comb. nov., and F. vieirai (Chagas, Bravo & Rafael, 2009) comb. nov. Moreover, one species known so far only from Costa Rica, Feuerborniella pollicaris (Quate, 1996) comb. nov., is transferred from Philosepedon Eaton, 1904, being the first record from Brazil, in semiarid areas of the states of Bahia and Ceará.

Kvifte Gunnar M.Review of the genus Psychomasina (Diptera: Psychodidae: Psychodinae), with descriptions of two new speciesActa Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 55(2): 495-503Abstract: The genus Psychomasina Ježek, 2004 is redefined and two new species are described: Psychomasina paedagogica sp. nov. based on a male from Kenya and Psychomasina violina sp. nov. based on a male from Madagascar. The chief character uniting the three included species is the basiphallus narrow, the distiphallus joints with lateral and/or medial spines and the parameres fusing medially to form a functionally single, elongate appendage. A median parameral appendage also occurs in Pericomaini, and to a lesser extent the paramormiine genus Seoda Enderlein, 1935. Other characters are consistent with placement in Paramormiini.
Wagner Rüdiger, Kvifte Gunnar M.Description of Jezekiella patera gen. et sp. nov. from Europe (Diptera: Psychodidae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 55(2): 505-511Abstract: Jezekiella patera, gen. et sp. nov., is described and illustrated based on a single male from Italy. Based on some character states found in this new genus (e.g. spiniform sensilla on basal flagellomeres) it is most similar morphologically to Paramormiini, a tribe that is likely paraphyletic. Other characters (e.g. allurement organs on the prothorax) are more similar to Pericomaini, or with uncertain phylogenetic affinities (e.g. dimorphic tenacula). The parameres of the new species form a flat bowl with a pair of mesally directed, digitate appendages basally and with distal bifurcate, back-folded processes.
Malenovský Igor, Burckhardt Daniel, Queiroz Dalva L., Isaias Rosy M., Oliveira Denis C.Descriptions of two new Pseudophacopteron species (Hemiptera: Psylloidea: Phacopteronidae) inducing galls on Aspidosperma (Apocynaceae) in BrazilActa Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 55(2): 513-538Abstract: Two new species of the large pantropical jumping plant-louse genus Pseudophacopteron Enderlein, 1921 (Hemiptera: Psylloidea: Phacopteronidae) are described from dry woodland habitats in the Midwest, Southeast and South of Brazil. Pseudophacopteron aspidospermi sp. nov. is associated with Aspidosperma australe, P. longicaudatum sp. nov. has been found on Aspidosperma macrocarpon and A. tomentosum (Apocynaceae). Both species induce intralaminar lenticular galls on the leaves of their host trees which have been the subject of several structural, histochemical and ecological publications. Adult males and females, fifth instar immatures and galls are illustrated including diagnostic morphological details, and compared with other Neotropical and Old World species of Pseudophacopteron and Phacopteronidae. The distribution of Pseudophacopteron in the Neotropical Region is briefly discussed.

The records of A. forfex Dallas, 1851 and A. rufescens Dallas, 1851 from Taiwan by previous authors are considered as erroneous. Lectotypes are designated for A. expansum and A. laevicorne. The Acanthosoma fauna of Taiwan is highly endemic; the zoogeographical affinities of the species are briefly discussed
Short Andrew E. Z., McIntosh IV Charles E.Hydrophilus harpe sp. nov., a remarkable new species of giant water scavenger beetle from Brazil (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 55(2): 665-672Abstract: A remarkable new species of giant water scavenger beetle, Hydrophilus (Dibolocelus) harpe sp. nov., is described from Northeastern and Southeastern Brazil. Measuring nearly 5 cm in length, it is one of the largest species of Hydrophilidae in the world. It is superficially similar to Hydrophilus masculinus (Régimbart, 1901) but is differentiated from that species by the form of the male protarsal claw and tibial spurs. A lectotype for Hydrophilus masculinus is also designated.
Fikáček Martin, Kropáček DanielA new species of Sphaeridium from northeastern India and Myanmar (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae: Sphaeridiinae)Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 55(2): 673-680Abstract: A new Oriental species of the genus Sphaeridium Fabricius, 1775, S. daemonicum sp. nov., is described based on specimens recently collected in the Brahmaputra valley (lowland part of Arunachal Pradesh, India) and historical specimens from southern Myanmar. The new species differs from all other described Oriental species by its wide parameres partly enveloping the median lobe, small body size, and coloration of the body. It is unique among Oriental species by the presence of a series of small spines along the lateral margin of pronotum and elytra. In the latter character, it resembles the members of the Afrotropical S. simplicipes group.
