Abstract: The Dermaptera fauna of Socotra Island is reviewed. Based on the study of material collected during expeditions of Czech naturalists in 1999-2012, a new genus, Socotralabis gen. nov. with the type species S. hulai sp. nov., and an additional species S. bezdeki sp. nov. have been recognised, and two new species of the genus Anisolabella Zacher, 1911: A. haasi sp. nov., and A. planata sp. nov. are described. Additionally, a new combination, Guanchia sokotrana (Burr, 1905) comb. nov. (from Anechura Scudder, 1876), is proposed, and the species Guanchia bituberculata (Brindle, 1966) stat. restit., described from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is removed from synonymy with G. sokotrana and reinstated as a valid species. Thirteen species have been found to occur in the Socotra Archipelago, while seven species (54 %) appear to be endemic, all to Socotra Island. Endemic taxa are associated with the mountain areas of Hagher, Homhil and Dixam, which are hot spots of the island's biodiversity. An updated checklist, distribution maps and new data on the Dermaptera species are presented to extend the knowledge of the Dermaptera of Socotra.

Abstract: The jumping plant-lice (Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha: Psylloidea) of the island of Socotra (Yemen) are reviewed. A total of eight species are recorded, six of them for the first time from Socotra. Four species are described as new: Colposcenia dioscoridis sp. nov. (Aphalaridae), Diaphorina caliginosa sp. nov., D. hagherensis sp. nov. (both Liviidae: Euphyllurinae), and Pauropsylla jarmilarum sp. nov. (Triozidae). Males are described for the first time for Diaphorina elegans Burckhardt & Mifsud, 1998 and immatures for Pseudophacopteron verrucifrons Burckhardt & Harten, 2006 (Phacopteronidae). Two additional species, Cacopsylla sp. (Psyllidae) and Diaphorina sp., remain formally undescribed. Host plant, biological and distributional data (if available) are provided for each species and a key for identification of adults is supplemented. The jumping plant-louse fauna of Socotra is briefly discussed from a biogeographical viewpoint.

Abstract: Hyphydrus dioscoridis sp. nov. from Socotra Island is described and illustrated. The new species belongs to the H. signatus species group, and is similar to Hyphydrus pictus Klug, 1834 from the Arabian Peninsula, from which it differs in the significantly coarser, deeper and denser punctation, broadly bordered clypeus, head between punctures microreticulated, tubercle on the apex of apical ventrite in male rounded, and microreticulate dorsal surface of the female. Adephagous water beetles of Yemen (including Socotra Island) and Dhofar region, southernmost Oman, are reviewed. Altogether eight species of Gyrinidae (of which one is not identified to species level), one species of Haliplidae, one species of Noteridae, and 52 species of Dytiscidae are documented. New records of 48 species are presented, while two previously described species, Dineutus arabicus Régimbart, 1907 and Hydaticus arabicus Guignot, 1951, are diagnosed and illustrated. Four species of Dytiscidae are recorded from Oman for the first time; twelve species (one Gyrinidae, 11 Dytiscidae) are recorded from Yemen for the first time - eight from continental Yemen and four from Socotra; in addition two other Dytiscidae species are recorded from Socotra for the first time, and the occurrence of another Gyrinidae species previously known from a doubtful record is confirmed. Habitat information is provided for recently collected species. The zoogeographical patterns of the region are briefly summarized.

Abstract: Odontopeza subgen. nov., a new subgenus of Lebia Latreille, 1802, with the type species Lebia (Odontopeza) socotrana sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Socotra Island, Yemen. The new subgenus is characterised by prominent blunt teeth on the inner side of the male mesotibia, besides a combination of other characters like presence of epilobes on mentum, deeply lobed metatarsomere IV, completeness of basal line of elytra, presence of seta on palpomere I, and an lack of incision on male apical ventrite. In addition, three carabid species are recorded from Socotra for the first time: Amblystomus aeneolus (Chaudoir, 1876), Platymetopus figuratus cf. somalicus Basilewsky, 1948, and Tachys lenkoranus Csiki, 1928. They increase the total number of Carabidae identified to species level from the island to 46; five species are considered to be endemic to Socotra Island.

Abstract: Ochthebius hajeki sp. nov. (Coleoptera: Hydraenidae) is described from Socotra Island (Yemen). It is a member of the O. foveolatus subgroup (sensu Jäch 1991). The new species differs from the two species of this subgroup occurring in the Arabian Peninsula (O. innexus Balfour-Browne, 1951, and O. harteni Jäch & Delgado, 2010) by its paler colouration and the shape of the aedeagus. Ochthebius hajeki sp. nov. is the second hydraenid species known from Socotra.

Abstract: First records of the Pselaphinae (Staphylinidae) from Socotra Island, Yemen, are given. Three new species: Epicaris bezdeki sp. nov., Trissemus socotranus sp. nov. and Centrophthalmus scanticola sp. nov. are described. A new diagnosis of the genus Epicaris Reitter, 1882 is provided and a redescription is also given. The list of the Pselaphinae of Socotra Island is completed by records of Articerodes syriacus (Saulcy, 1865), Ctenisomorphus major (Raffray, 1877), and Trissemus maroccanus wittmeri Besuchet, 1981.

Abstract: Delopleurus mencli sp. nov. is described from Socotra Island, Yemen, and its diagnostic characters including external male genitalia are illustrated. The new species can be distinguished from all nine previously known species mainly by the sculpture of the pygidium of both males and females. Discovery of this new species on Socotra Island links disjunctive Afro-Oriental distribution of the genus Delopleurus Erichson, 1847, previously reported only from the Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian subcontinent.

Abstract: Within the Socotran chafer genus Canuschiza Lacroix, 1999 (Coleo­ptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae: Schizonychini) two species groups are recognized, Canuschiza insularis Lacroix, 1999 species group and C. minuta Lacroix, 1999 species group. A revision of C. insularis species group is provided. Canuschiza insularis is redescribed and the following seven new species are described within this group: Canuschiza adah sp. nov., C. croton sp. nov., C. dracaena sp. nov., C. firmihin sp. nov., C. hagher sp. nov., C. jatropha sp. nov., and C. skand sp. nov. An identification key to males and females of the species group is provided, and photographs illustrate external morphology and male genitalia.

Abstract: In this work we present the first data on the family Limnichidae for the Arabian Peninsula and the island of Socotra, based on material collected in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, continental Yemen and Socotra. We describe five new species: Pelochares sinbad sp. nov. (Oman and UAE), P. sabaeanus sp. nov. (continental Yemen, Jordan and dubious from Ethiopia), Byrrhinus socotrensis sp. nov. (Socotra), B. helicophallus sp. nov. (continental Yemen, dubious from Ethiopia), and Limnichus arabicus sp. nov. (continental Yemen). All species of Limnichidae found on the Arabian Peninsula and Socotra were undescribed, but it is likely that some could also be found in the neighbouring areas (such as Iran or Eastern Africa), for which no or very few records of Limnichidae are known.

Abstract: Two new species of Trogossitidae: Lophocaterinae: Ancyronini (Coleoptera) from Socotra Island are described and classified within the genus Afrocyrona Kolibáč, 2007. One species, Afrocyrona volatilis sp. nov. is winged, while the second described species, A. pedestris sp. nov., is brachypterous and thus flightless. Both species were found to be related to known members of Afrocyrona and thereby confirm a possible biogeographical relationship of Socotra to the South African fauna. All species of Afrocyrona share hidden feeding habits in litter or rotten wood, unique in this group of beetles.

Abstract: Histeromorphus Kraatz, 1865, a genus endemic to the Socotra Archipelago is revised and all species are redescribed. Histeromorphus plicatipennis Waterhouse, 1881 is resurrected from synonymy with H. plicatus Kraatz, 1865. Lectotypes are designated for H. undatus Gahan, 1900, H. plicatus, and H. plicatipennis. As a result of recent biodiversity research on Socotra Island, three new species are described: Histeromorphus carinatus sp. nov., H. convexicostatus sp. nov. and H. nogedensis sp. nov. All species are figured and keyed.

Abstract: Representative material of the genus Zonitoschema Péringuey, 1909 (Coleoptera: Meloidae: Nemognathinae: Nemognathini) from North Africa, Arabian Peninsula and the Near East is revised. Three new species are described: Z. arabica sp. nov. from continental Yemen, Z. chourriba sp. nov. from southern Tunisia, and Z. kaszabi sp. nov. from Socotra Island. Zonitoschema iranica Kaszab, 1959, supposedly endemic to southern Iran, is recorded from Chad, Sudan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Oman for the first time, and we consider most of the citations of Z. gibdoana (Kaszab, 1956) from the Arabian Peninsula to refer to it. Zonitoschema iranica is strictly close to Z. oculatissima Peyerimhoff, 1929, endemic to central Sahara. Zonitoschema gibdoana from eastern Africa (here recorded from Mozambique for the first time) is also related to Z. iranica but it is probably a synonym of Z. paolii Pic, 1927, a species described from Somalia and almost unknown. The species recorded in recent literature as ’Z. griseohirta Pic, 1914’ from several Afrotropical countries and the Arabian Peninsula, is instead an unnamed distinct species related to Z. genicularis (Wellman, 1910), being clearly distinct from the true Z. griseohirta from Somalia. Zonitoschema rubricolor Pic, 1924 is removed from the fauna of the United Arab Emirates and is reported from Oman and Kenya for the first time. Host association of Z. iranica with carpenter bee Pseudoheriades grandiceps Peters, 1988 (Megachilidae) is recorded from the United Arab Emirates. Distributions of all species from North Africa, Near East and the Arabian Peninsula are discussed. A key to the Saharo-Sindian species is proposed and all species are figured. The unbalanced Meloidae fauna of the Socotra Island is compared to that of other islands/archipelagos and of adjacent continental areas.

Abstract: Cryptocephalus (Cryptocephalus) socotrensis sp. nov., the first known species of Cryptocephalus Geoffroy, 1762 from Socotra Island (Yemen), is described and illustrated. The new species is similar in colouration to the C. undulatus-species group, but differs from all species in this group in a deep incision in the basal margin of pronotum at posterior angles, and a non-spiral spermathecal ductus. Character states of the new species are compared with both Palaearctic and Afrotropical species of Cryptocephalus.

Abstract: A new species of Neobarombiella Bolz & Wagner, 2012, a galerucine genus recently described from continental sub-Saharan Africa, is here described from Socotra Island, Yemen. Neobarombiella socotrana sp. nov. is most similar to N. nigrocaerulea (Jacoby, 1897), N. nigrita (Jacoby, 1894), N. punctata (Laboissi're, 1920), and N. punctatolineata (Jacoby, 1899), but can be distinguished from these species by both external and genital characters. An updated key to the species of the Afrotropical genus Neobarombiella is given.

Abstract: The family Attelabidae is recorded for the first time from Socotra Island, Yemen. A new genus Socotrorhinus gen. nov. is described and compared with similar and likely related groups from the tribe Rhinocartini. The differential diagnosis of this new genus is based primarily on the distinct shape and structure of the rostrum and elytra. Socotrorhinus boswelliae sp. nov. is described and its diagnostic characters are illustrated. The biology and geographical distribution of the new species, associated with frankincense trees (Boswellia spp., Burseraceae), is briefly described.

Abstract: This contribution deals with a total of 71 species of the curculionoid families Apionidae, Nanophyidae, Brachyceridae and Curculionidae (except for Scolytinae) recorded from Socotra Island, based on both literature and new records. The following twelve new genera of Curculionidae are described: Armifemur gen. nov. (type species A. pusillus sp. nov.), Bezdekiellus gen. nov. (type species B. lucidulus sp. nov.), Elwoodius gen. nov. (type species E. barbatus sp. nov.) and Hajekia gen. nov. (type species H. microps sp. nov.) in Cossoninae: Dryotribini; Dipnotyphlus gen. nov. (type species: D. laminiscapus sp. nov.) in Cossoninae: Onycholipini; Parvorhynchus gen. nov. (all from Systates Gerstaecker, 1871), and Molybdotus vermiculosus (Waterhouse, 1881) comb. nov. (from Piazomias Schoenherr, 1840). Caenocotaster Voss, 1971, stat. nov., is promoted to genus from subgenus of Cotaster Motschulsky, 1851. The new substitute name Cossonus alphonsephilus nom. nov. is proposed to replace Cossonus gibbirostris Hustache, 1936, not Cossonus gibbirostris Roelofs, 1875. Keys to species of Hajekia gen. nov., Nesotocerus gen. nov., Endeochetus Kolbe, 1898, to Socotran Molybdotus Fairmaire, 1882, and to Socotran Peritelini genera are given.

Abstract: Micatagla hajeki sp. nov., a new species belonging to the genus Micatagla Argaman, 1994, closely related to M. antropovi Pagliano, 2002, is described from specimens recently collected during the Czech entomological expeditions on the island of Socotra. The new species is characterized by uniformly pale red body, with the exception of black terga II-VI and white spurs on legs; and by small lateral teeth of tergum VI distributed regularly on the margins, getting smaller in proximity of the apex.

Abstract: Oplodontha minuta (Fabricius, 1794), a species being previously recorded only from India and Sri Lanka, is here documented from Socotra Island. Consequently, we re-examined some material of Oplodontha from Egypt and Afghanistan known as O. oasina (Lindner, 1925) and from Israel and the United Arab Emirates published under the name of O. pulchriceps (Loew, 1858). We found that the types of O. oasina are conspecific with O. minuta, so O. oasina represents a new synonym of this species. All examined specimens of O. pulchriceps (sensu Lindner 1975, Lindner & Freidberg 1978 and Hauser 2007) actually also belong to O. minuta. The known distribution of O. minuta is therefore extended to the Afrotropical as well as the Palaearctic Region. Our re-examination of the type material of Odontomyia ochracea Brunetti, 1907 and Odontomyia submutica Brunetti, 1907 confirmed the known synonymy with O. minuta. In addition, new records and a distribution map of the previously known stratiomyid species from Socotra Island, Adoxomyia socotrae Hauser, 2002 is provided.
